A Message from Anthony Pierre

AP Pic'Once again, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC) takes great pride in welcoming all delegates, spouses and guests to its Annual Conference that will be held from June 21-23, 2018 in Nassau, Bahamas.

Scheduled for the beautiful Atlantis Paradise Island Resort, our 36th Annual Conference will provide another opportunity for us to assess the state of our profession, its influence and impact on the wider region; and to refine our strategies for moving forward. We thank our hosts, the Council and members of the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) for their hospitality, and are confident that we can anticipate another event that meets the traditionally high standards set for our Annual Conference and for our profession.

In a world that continues to contract even as the challenges multiply, it is important for us to frequently examine how we strategize to harness talents and seize opportunities to advance not only the interests and goals of the accountancy profession, but the Caribbean region as a whole.

Ongoing developments in information-communication technologies including cloud-based services and cognitive computing, globalization and changes in financial regulations are just some of the issues that confront professionals in accounting, finance and related areas; and the Caribbean is no exception. The job of the accountant today is no longer just about balancing the books but providing guidance and offering higher value services to our clients in an increasingly complex and competitive world.

It is in recognition of this rapidly changing environment that the theme, “Regional and Global Opportunities: Preparing for Success,” was chosen for this year’s Conference, since it is not only important to examine the challenges but to also identify and explore the opportunities, if we are to successfully achieve our professional and development goals.

From the exploration of Global Accounting Profession Trends to the Accounting Profession's Value Proposition for the Digital Age; Leadership in the 21st Century; Recent Developments in Public Sector Accounting in the Region to Caribbean Economic Development and The Ease of Doing Business in the Region, among other subjects; this year’s Conference will not only seek to increase awareness about the requirements for meeting the demands of this new era but to equip professionals to examine the issues and processes that will assist them to remain relevant while adding value to their clients’ operations and the region.

This Conference promises to be both engaging and game changing. I therefore urge you all to be guided by the information that we have posted on our website as you register and book your accommodation early.

We look forward to welcoming you to the beautiful Paradise Island of The Bahamas!'
